The Grave of Louis Riel

The leader of the Métis during the Red River Rebellion of 1869, Louis Riel played a critical role in the founding of the province of Manitoba, as part of his efforts to protect the rights of the Métis to their land and the rights of the French to their language. Riel’s tombstone is the site of an annual ceremony commemorating his important role in Canadian history.
