Divya Mehra’s artwork occupies the already white gallery with white vinyl lettering and harsh lighting to make it glaringly white. In this way, she dwells in and on the idea of racial whiteness as the norm. The viewer has to look carefully and with determination to read it. The work contributes to a critical discourse on race, ethnicity and colonialism at a time of expanded critical vocabularies and space for such specificities and nuance.
